Mermaids are mythological creatures with the upper body of a human female and the lower body of a fish with a horizontal tail.
The male counterpart is dubbed the "merman", with the upper body of a handsome, muscular human male and the tail of a fish.

Mermaids have the upper body of women with flowing long hair that covers their back and bare front. The lower part of the body is of a fish tail. The transition between body and tail happens dramatically in the area where a women's waistline is at.
